Re-route.co.uk - Is this for real?

10 Jun 2008 In: Business

A few days ago an SEO company called re-route.co.uk approached me and asked me if I would be interested in their SEO program. The program is free until you get to page one for a chosen keyword - at which point you will start to pay. I know this is a very unusual offer as I have been at other companies who were using SEO and the costs were phenomenal. Does anyone know anything about this company re-route.co.uk?

Furniture Basics

5 Jun 2008 In: Lifestyle

Our lifestyle is always changing as we constantly try to be with the trend. We always look for fashionable clothes, bags, jewelry, etc., but do not care about our Bedroom Furniture. Bedroom is the only place where you can relax, stay together and share your joy. Bedroom is where we want to relax after the hectic schedules. Wherever we go, at the end of the day, we want to go back to our bedrooms. So if you want to make your bedroom impressive and good looking, you need to furnish it with attractive furniture set. An exclusive furniture set can enhance the beauty of your bedroom. Get the perfect style and comfort by opting for the right furniture. You can try all the Modern Furniture as well as the contemporary one. Both modern and Contemporary Bedroom Furniture are good for you, both will suit you liking. The Basics
Beside that, first, you’ll want a bed that’s big enough for you and your partner. But how big is big enough – king size, queen size or normal sized bed? There is only one way to find out: Lie on the prospective bed with arms stretched on your sides. Now that will give you an idea on how much space you require (plus your partner’s).

Of course you need to consider your height, too. The idea is that you need as much space to be comfy as you sleep without falling off or waking your partner up. And, yeah, you need to make sure it fits comfortably in your bedroom, leaving enough space around.

Then comes the bed’s height. You’ll want to get on and off the bed with ease, which in other words means the bed frames should be of right height. Again, it’s best to try getting on and off the bed while you are choosing the right one.

Lastly, carefully consider the brand and the price. Though all cheap beds are not bad but then branded ones have a lot going for them like quality, warrant: the works. They wouldn’t have become well known for nothing. But just because the bed is pricey doesn’t mean that it’s the best.

Solar Powered Patio Umbrella Was Only A Matter Of Time

23 Dec 2007 In: Uncategorized

patio.jpgWe’re entering a time when basically anything once used to block the sun is now being configured to harness it. Soon, we’ll see baseball caps embedded with solar panels to charge radios or iPods; while simultaneously glowing at night. This new integration will have its own issues in terms of production and resource management, but it’s coming. Take for instance this solar powered patio umbrella.

Set it up anywhere the light shines down and at night you’ll be treated to an array of “starry” LED lights to illuminate the rest of your evening. From the description:

“This item has a solar panel which screws into the top (finial) of the umbrella to power the 18 white LED’s which are located on the ribs (3 per rib). It also has a center hub light with 8 led’s inside, there is a dual switch on the umbrella which will control both the rib lights an or the hub light. You can have them both turned on you can have one or the other on, depending on how much light you want or need. The batteries inside the solar panel are replaceable and the leds on the ribs are also replaceable. The panel will charge in direct sunlight and fully charged provides 6-8 hours of light.”

It’s cool that the batteries and LED lights are replaceable — basically providing a long-life for this system. What I’m not clear on is how bright or enjoyable the light might be once turned on. Would you be better off lighting some candles at night instead?

Still, unlike most products that come from obscure storefronts, this one is available at Lowe’s right now for the reasonable price of $99. Worth a shot? Let us know!

Can We Stay in the Suburbs?

17 Dec 2007 In: Uncategorized

a_different_type_of_suburbia_sm.jpgThere is little doubt that during that last 60 years we here in America have transformed our manmade landscape in a way that is fundamentally different from any form of human habitation ever known. While many have flocked to this new way of organizing the spaces in which we live, critics have noticed the shortcomings and have loudly pointed them out. It’s been suggested that the development of the suburbs here in the U.S. was a really bad idea. Author James Kunstler describes suburbia as, “the greatest misallocation of resources in the history of the world.†The ability of most citizens to own and cheaply operate an automobile means we’ve had access to a level of mobility never before experienced. The outgrowth of which has been a sprawling pattern of living that changed the rules about how and where we live, work, and play and how we get there and back. We are now more spread out than ever before, mostly getting back and forth from one place to another by driving alone in our cars. This could turn out to be a really bad thing.

As the cost of fueling those cars increases, it’s becoming obvious we’ve foolishly put too many of our eggs into one basket. And as America wakes up to the realities of a changing climate, it’s also painfully obvious that soloing around in a huge fleet of carbon emitters isn’t the most thoughtful way to transport ourselves from one side of suburbia to the other. The question is, as the expansive nature of suburban life becomes too expensive, both economically and ecologically, what will we do with this great “misallocation†of resources? (more…)

Being Caribou-A book review

11 Dec 2007 In: Uncategorized

becari.jpgIt’s not very often that a book is written that is such a great adventure in reading that you can’t put it down. But that happened to me with this book. I literally read the entire book in one day. (It helped that I’ve been sick lately so I’ve had more down time than usual)

This book was incredibly appealing to me, and educational to me. I knew next to nothing about Caribou, their role in the lives of our northern neighbors, or how extraordinary their yearly journey to their calving grounds is. This book changed all that. They really are a magical, almost mystical, type of animal. Not unlike the feelings Native Americans have for Bison. It’s incredible to me that role they play in the lives of the people of the artic north.

Prior to reading this book I was against drilling for oil in ANWR because of the shear illogical attitude that we should destroy one of our last pristine wild places for a 6 month supply of oil. But now, after reading this book, and seeing how important that area is to caribou, and by default, to the native Canadians who depend on Caribou, I’m even less for it. I don’t want to get into a discussion on drilling for oil in ANWR, but I do want to mention the idea that the caribou won’t mind all the noise and infrastructure necessary to “harvest” that oil is ridiculous. Read this book. The author was trapped in his tent for 8 days while the caribou were calving because when they left their tent it spooked the caribou. How will truck traffic and noise not also bother them? The different is that in those cases they will continue to drive and make noise, not have the decency to stay trapped in their tent for a week like the author.

I’m not going to say that much about the book, except to tell you to read it. If you don’t know much about caribou or ANWR you should read this book. This book should be required reading for any legislator who has a vote on anything related to ANWR. If you can’t understand why this wildlife refuge is important, this book will change that. Read it. It’s a fantastic story. I just wish the book would have had more pictures so I could see the beauty that they experienced during their travels.

American Airlines Blasted For Five-Passenger Trip Across Atlantic

5 Dec 2007 In: Uncategorized

aa.jpg

While private jets zooming around with one or two people on board is not surprising, an American Airlines flight with only five passengers from Chicago to London is. The Boeing 777 used 22,000 gallons of fuel to make the flight and the airline is now being accused of “reckless behaviour” by green lobby groups. From the article,

The latest “eco- scandal” flight took place on February 9 after American was forced to cancel one of its four daily services from Chicago to London. While it was able to find places for nearly all the passengers on the fully-booked flight, five still had to be accommodated. Those who did fly were upgraded to the business class cabin. But while they enjoyed lavish hospitality, the airline was accused of an “obscene waste of fuel” by Friends of the Earth.

It is estimated that each passenger on board produced 43 tons of CO2. To put that in perspective, it’s estimated that the average American has a carbon footprint of between 8-10 tons per year. The flight cost AA roughly $60K, but the airline insists it had no choice due to westbound passengers in London waiting for the flight to arrive. Friends of the Earth spokesperson Richard Dyer thinks differently,

“Flying virtually empty planes is an obscene waste of fuel. Through no fault of their own , each passenger’s carbon footprint for this flight is about 45 times what it would have been if the plane had been full. Governments must stop granting the aviation industry the unfair privileges that allow this to happen by taxing aviation fuel and including emissions from aviation in international agreements to tackle climate change.”

While it won’t win any awards for aesthetics, this little DIY project is intriguing for anyone wanting to get started with some plantings or reuse some plastic bottles lying around. All you’ll need is a soda bottle, some cotton string, dirt, seeds, and according to the author, “a little patience”. Take a look at the step-by-step here!

I’m A Victim of Identity Theft

30 Nov 2007 In: Business

I only have myself to blame with this one. I should not have just been putting my unwanted financial information into the recycle basket. Some thug or vandal must have got hold of some confidential info and somehow wangled his or her way into my account. I got word of the problem last Monday, when my bank phoned me up to say that over £500 worth of purchases have been made on the Theatons Adult Toys Shop. I had never heard of the company before or even bought any adult toys or paraphernalia. The bank reimbursed me my money, but I didn’t want to let a social parasite get away with abusing our gracious financial institutions, so I sought help from Theatons to get some info on the possible thuglet. They gave me the address that the items were sent to and the very kind owner also said that I could have any items from their dildos and vibrators ranges. I was gratefull for the kind offer, but declined it. The owner insisted I have something and after a look through the site, i settled on a sex swing.

I have since pressed charges aggainst the theif and a investigation ensues.
